Woolitji Co-op

Woolitji Co-operative Ltd was registered in August 1976 after a formation meeting in July involving delegates from Nungera Co-operative Society Ltd and a group of friends with the express purpose of purchasing the former Bank of NSW building at 203 River Street Maclean as a venue for Aboriginal community activities. Woolitji Co-operative subsequently adopted the ultimate goal of establishing a Regional Museum of Aboriginal Life and Culture at Woolitji House.

The Co-operative has had cause to concentrate on restoration and renovation of the heritage building over much of the past 25 years. Over recent years renewed effort has been made to explore projects that will fulfill the objective to create a benefit to the communities of the traditional owners of the lands and waters of the Clarence valley.
